Twenty First Century classroom Presenting learning in the 21st century Today technology plays an important role in a teachers pedagogy. In the twenty first century there are a multitude of digital recourses and promote and present learning on a contextualized platform that enables students to become pro-active, collaborative self learners with in todays society. The purpose of a presentation is to persuade, narrate and to educate. As you can see in the picture above, the teacher is merely the facilitator of learning that is occurring. Students are using their own personal devices while engaging in content and in front of them is a PowerPoint being presented on the interactive white board. Using power point presentations (PPP) in the classroom have considerable potentials for  students and teachers. PPP have become an instructional aid in educational settings. An outstanding PowerPoint has the potential and power to culminate the attention of students and empower them to analyze, synt

Week 4 - Digital Media

Image
Digital Media Digital Media Once again as I delve into the dark and unknown depths of digital technology, I've had a small but mighty breakthrough in understanding  concepts and processes of digital technology in contemporary learning of the 21st century. The pedagogical affordance of using selected media can be utilized within many classrooms from primary, secondary and universities to transfer, support active learning or student centre products. Digital Media can be used to as a direct instruction or facilitate active learning for students, it can also be used as an effective teaching strategy for educators. Digital Media   Research has shown that people learn better through abstract, new and novel concepts when presented verbally and visually (Salomon, 1979) Why Use Media to Enhance Teaching and Learning (carleton.edu) Advantages of using Media: Many media sources (feature films, music videos, visualizations, news stories) have very high production quality capable of  showcasi

Web Spaces-Digital Pedagogies

Introduction   As I delve into the depths of modern technology I find myself slightly overwhelmed and lost in understanding the concepts of a complex digital world that I've not yet experienced. In saying this, I am excited to lean something new that will further improve my practice as a pre-service teacher.  This opportunity will allow me to express, critically reflect, collaborate not only with peers but the greater community in the digital world. What are the differences between a Blog, Wiki and a Website? make a website hub For some the question is what is the difference between a blog and a wiki? According to Jamie from Make a website hub , a blog is typically known as an online journal or diary that can include an array of content from texts, videos, animations, pictures or other documents you may wish to display for the public to see.  A WIKI is defined as an online website that allows multiple authors and collaboration editing of content that is structured by users. The SAMR model

The SAMR Model.    Education in the 21st century has seen an revolutionary change in the way that learning content is being delivered. The focus on using ICT's to deliver content has seen in recent times(due to the current global pandemic) its justification of use in the educational context.  I believe that the global pandemic has shown educational institutions that the use of ICT's allow for students to openly collaborate with their peers and communicate in a safe space while still actively participating in learning content that is delivered online by the teacher. This practice identifies the lower levels of blooms taxonomy. By using the SAMR model, teachers can use the 4 main key focuses of substitution, argumentation, modification and redefinition then breaking them into transformation and enhancement. This allows for teachers integrate and incorporate technology in to learning and break down tasks into manageable steps.  I think the SAMR model would be a fantastic strategy

Higher Order Thinking

Reflecting on higher order thinking Secondary discipline areas are often content-laden. Use Robyn Collins Curriculum and Leadership as a foundation, and consider the Australian Curriculum in your selected junior discipline area. Identify the process/research/inquiry skills that are required. They are skills that, according to Collins, are best developed through application to real-life contexts. Use the Aims, rationale and structure of the curriculum to uncover the global approaches of importance, as well as the content. The process/research and inquiry skills for design and technology are that students are to investigate from a range of technologies, materials, systems, components, tools and equipment to consider the characteristics and properties of technologies and how they can be combined to design and produce sustainable problems for individuals and the community. Furthermore, consider society, ethics, and economic, environmental and social sustainability factors.   Students

Pedagogical Principles

Pedagogical Principles What are the Pedagogical Principles (defined in the Learning Materials)? The pedagogical principles that are defined in digital pedagogies are that of:   Facilitating deep knowledge through higher order thinking. Facilitating collaborative learning in which conversations are important. Supporting students in knowing how they learn best. Planning learning that is problem based and situated in real life context. Is relevant to students, and connects to their background knowledge. Supports learning that is owned, controlled and managed by students themselves. Is socially supportive, engaging, and values cultural knowledge. Is supportive of the development of active citizenship, and strong group identity.    What do the Pedagogical Principles mean to you in common language? Pedagogical principles are the main focus on teaching within the educational context. Pedagogical principles are also the many learning arrangements required to teach, and build ethi
